Crisis management — Guidelines

The international reference for crisis management since it superseded the UK PAS 200. It cleanly separates incident (known procedure) from crisis (novel, ambiguous, high-stakes) and focuses on decision-making capability rather than on the plan.

Official text

Who it applies to

  • Crisis team members
  • Executives and spokespeople

Structuring points

  • A crisis is defined by uncertainty, not by severity
  • The crisis team decides and arbitrates; it does not run the incident for the teams
  • People capability matters more than plan completeness
  • Communication and operations are parallel streams, never sequential
