Crisis management — Guidelines
The international reference for crisis management since it superseded the UK PAS 200. It cleanly separates incident (known procedure) from crisis (novel, ambiguous, high-stakes) and focuses on decision-making capability rather than on the plan.
Official textWho it applies to
- Crisis team members
- Executives and spokespeople
- Crisis communication leads
Structuring points
- A crisis is defined by uncertainty, not by severity
- The crisis team decides and arbitrates; it does not run the incident for the teams
- People capability matters more than plan completeness
- Communication and operations are parallel streams, never sequential
Structures, capabilities, culture and competencies needed to anticipate, absorb and exit a crisis.
